Our Perspective with Kevin Jackson

I had the pleasure of sitting down and catch up with Kevin Jackson to see what he has been up to since our last interview. You can listen to Kevin's full interview with The Mental Perspective on our interview page.

Hey Kev, thanks for sitting down with me again. It's been a minute since our last interview, what have you been up to since then?

I’ve been well, enjoying time to myself to reconnect on a level deeper than my profession.

2020 has been a hell of a year to say the least. With the pandemic, the craziness with politics and police killings/brutality in our community, has that had any affect on you and your mental health? In what ways?

I tuned out a lot of the outside noise that 2020 brung. I have found that listening to my inner being and God have given my conscious a different type of peace. I didn’t have to travel to any place outside of my mind for peace.

You stated your mental battle was being a man as well as a black man in America. Is that something you still battle with, especially after this past year?

I have come to terms with the constant rage of being a black man in America. I don’t focus on the issues in this reality anymore, I’m more focused on the commitment to not continue to be tricked by America’s ideals.

How are you maintaining and protecting your mental peace these days?

I sit with my thoughts more than anyone else’s.

Mental health and wellness is becoming less of a taboo subject but I still think we are not quite there. What do you think needs to be done to normalize having open and real conversations on mental health and wellness in the black community?

I think becoming more acceptable to therapy will really help the black community open up about our mental health.

If you could give one piece of advice to a young black man struggling with his mental health, what would that be?

I would simply tell him to speak on his feelings. I would let him know that true strength comes from confronting the struggle not just dwelling in it.

If you could have things your way, what would you like to see more of in the world?

I would like to see more information given out about how the vessel we are borrowing works. I would like us to learn more about health related foods and how the mind can be programmed.

Thank you for sharing your perspective with me again, as always I truly appreciate you sharing your story. How can people connect with you?
